Positive Training, Positive Results
About Gundog Training in Kent
We provide ethical gundog training for both pets and working dogs.

Our focus is on training you as the handler/owner and empowering you to develop your dog and build a strong partnership based on trust, fun and the strongest bond.

We do not use labels on our training methods as our approach is entirely flexible to you and your dog, but our training philosophy is around keeping training fun and achieving success through positive experiences.

We do teach and encourage owners to set boundaries with their dogs, but through the lens of actions vs consequences. We do not tolerate any form of harsh handling.
Gundog Training in Kent
Kent is one of England's great working dog counties. With the High Weald to the west, the North Downs cutting through the heart of the county, and farmland stretching from the Garden of England orchards around Faversham all the way to the coastal plains of Romney Marsh, it's a landscape built for gundogs. Whether you're training a Labrador for picking up on a driven shoot or simply want a steadier, happier spaniel on your weekend walks, Kent offers everything a gundog needs to thrive — and The Gundog Coach is here to help you make the most of it.

We offer professional 1-to-1 gundog training sessions across South East Kent, working with handlers and their dogs at private grounds in the heart of the county. Sessions are tailored entirely to you and your dog — there's no one-size-fits-all programme here. Whether you're a first-time gundog owner with an energetic 12-week-old puppy or an experienced handler who has hit a wall with steadiness or recall, we'll build a plan around your goals.
Why Gundog Training in Kent Makes Sense
Kent's countryside is extraordinarily varied. From the ancient woodlands of the Weald to open arable fields, river valleys, and coastal marshland, your gundog will encounter a huge range of environments, scents, and distractions throughout their working or companion life. Training in this landscape — not just in a sterile paddock — is one of the most valuable things you can do to prepare your dog for real-world situations.

The county also has a strong shooting and fieldsports community. Pheasant and partridge shoots are widespread across the Weald and the Downs, and there's an active picking-up scene across estates from the Medway Valley to the Stour. Whether you're heading to a formal driven day or a rougher walked-up shoot, a well-trained gundog is not just an asset — it's a responsibility.

Who We Train
We work with all gundog breeds — Labradors, Cocker and Springer Spaniels, Golden Retrievers, and more — at every level of experience. We train pet dogs as well as working gundogs. If you simply want a more obedient, engaged companion who is a pleasure on country walks, gundog training is one of the most rewarding and effective approaches you can take.

We also coach the handler as much as the dog. Many training problems aren't the dog's fault — they're a communication gap between dog and handler. Our sessions are designed to give you the skills and confidence to continue training effectively between sessions, not just to fix a problem in the moment.
Training Areas Across Kent
Our home grounds are in South East Kent, but we cover a wide area across the county. We regularly work with handlers from Canterbury, Dover, Folkestone, Ashford, Maidstone, Hythe, Deal, Sandwich, and the surrounding villages. If you're unsure whether we cover your area, get in touch — we're happy to discuss options
